GLOBSEC 2018 Bratislava Forum

07.12.2017

GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum (17 - 19 May 2018)

In the twelve years of its existence, GLOBSEC Forum has grown into one of the top strategic forums worldwide for connecting the realms of politics, academia, the non-government sector, and business. Indeed, political and social developments in the transatlantic area, Middle East, and other regions underline the need for a truly global policy-making platform.

GLOBSEC Forum has become an essential meeting place for political and business leaders, visionaries and innovators that share a common goal: a determination to make the world a better and safer place.

The Forum provides a space for both formal and informal discussions that seek solutions and encourage firm action for the most urgent crises facing us now and in the future.

Hundreds of influential statesmen, experts from leading global think-tanks, academia and business, as well as visionaries and innovators, will once again come to GLOBSEC Forum to discuss and seek solutions to the most pressing global issues. Over the years, GLOBSEC’s guest list has included David Cameron, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Madeleine Albright, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Donald Tusk, Kersti Kaljulaid, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Rose Gottemoeller, David Roberts and many more.

GLOBSEC 2018 KEY FEATURES

  • The phenomenon of terrorist groups abusing social media and other applications to recruit and radicalise new members and coordinate attacks is now a major global security issue. GLOBSEC Forum will connect experts on terrorism, intelligence, µand social media to discuss and propose solutions that tackle this growing problem.
  • As instability in the Middle East continues to fuel persistent humanitarian crisis, GLOBSEC Forum will provide a platform for strategic discussions between regional and global leaders and experts and look for ways to lead the region out of the quagmire.
  • Transatlantic relations have always been a substantial feature of the Forum. After a series of key elections on both sides of the Atlantic, this crucial relationship has entered a new era. GLOBSEC Forum will once again connect partners to discuss common strategies.
  • The Internet has become a battlefield of ideas where facts are distorted by trolls and propaganda is propelled by automated bots. And while technology empowers citizens it also seems to be chipping away at democracy. Open societies with democratic political systems and values have become prey to these predatory tactics. GLOBSEC will use its own research into this phenomenon to connect experts and devise technical measures and policies that tackle this issue.
  • Recent election results in several key member states have prompted debates on the future shape and direction of the European Union. In response, leaders, policymakers, and other interested parties have outlined an array of alternative scenarios that they hope will underscore the EU as the solution rather than a source of Europe's problems. GLOBSEC Forum will actively contribute to this mission by inviting these leaders to present their visions for the future of Europe.
  • Disruptive technologies are already having a profound impact on our world. Yet, while increased automation and artificial intelligence provide effective solutions for numerous challenges, they also raise concerns over their long-term effects on global society. GLOBSEC Forum will seek to better equip humanity for the next phase of its existence by expanding its agenda in order to tackle this issue head-on.
  • The mounting challenges posed by inequality, migration, radicalisation, and more, suggest that globalisation isn't working for everyone. Possible solutions include policies that further empower women, sustainable urbanisation, and renewed efforts to combat climate change and enhance global trade. GLOBSEC Forum will debate ways to reinvent multilateral decision-making platforms in order to address these issues.

Participation in the conference

To provide smooth organization of the conference and due to capacity limitations of the venue participation is possible upon personal non-transferable invitation only and is a subject of a precise selection process. Every invitee requires being approved by the GLOBSEC Forum Audience Board consisting of the organisation’s Honorary Chairman, President, CEO and the Project Manager of the conference.

Invitation process of members of diplomatic missions accredited to Slovakia follows the following specific guidelines – GLOBSEC organizers provide invitations to:

  • Heads of diplomatic missions of those states from which participation of a state representative at the level of president, the prime minister, minister, state secretary, speaker of the parliament or chairman of the parliamentary committee is confirmed at the Forum;
  • Heads of diplomatic missions of those states that are permanent members of the UN Security Council, V4 countries, members of the Presidency Trio of the Council of the European Union, member states of the EU, NATO and G20;
  • Heads of diplomatic missions of states which actively cooperate with GLOBSEC on a long-term basis (active support of speakers' and audience invitations, recommendations of relevant stakeholders as invitees, cooperation during working visits of GLOBSEC representatives abroad);
  • Defence attachés of respective missions in case of attendance of minister of defence or state secretary of defence;
  • Additional members of the diplomatic mission in case of participation of a high-level political delegation or in case the mission is official partner of the GLOBSEC organization.
