Report preview: Ukraine mine nightmare continues

Nearly two years in Russia’s war against Ukraine, the country remains among the world's most contaminated countries when it comes to explosive ordnance. This issue and the need for intensified humanitarian demining were some of the areas for debate at our exclusive working dinner co-hosted with MEP Karlo Ressler in Brussels on January 23, 2024.

Iuliia Osmolovska, Director of GLOBSEC’s Kyiv Office, preview the key findings from the new report Cleaning the Augean Stables: Humanitarian Demining in Ukraine, which looks to build on the international success of GLOBSEC’s 2023 report, Walking on Fire: Demining in Ukraine.

The working dinner teased new data points ranging from Russian artillery dud rates, the impact of Russian mines on global food security, as well as the potential future environmental impact assessment. Following the report preview, a collection of high-level interventions was made on the topic, that culminated in a question-and-answer period.

The full report, Cleaning the Augean Stables: Humanitarian Demining in Ukraine, will be available to the general public on Monday, January 29.
